We can’t all be “yes” people all the time, sometimes a “soft maybe” will do. Instead of going out, you could just curl up on your couch with your cat to and tune into Soft Maybe. Sanders Smith, local guitarist in Wrinkles and Bombshell Nightlight, invites us in to a living room groove in his solo project debut album, “Domestic Nature,”out on all streaming services today.

Soft Maybe is his outlet to reflect on day-to-day moments, like walking in the rain, listening to Carly Rae Jepson, eating pasta and being in love. It has a homey feeling to it, fuzzy guitar and charming synth invite you in.

Smith said the recording process allowed for an intimate and relaxed experience. He would show up to his friend’s house, Lukas Phelan, of HOYA recordings, with a coffee and croissant in hand for a weekly session. Music made by friends and to be played by friends. That is what it is all about.

Smith is also a self described “bagel boy” at Anything Bagel, a D.I.Y. cassette label out of Missoula he runs with his bandmate Jon Cardiello. They started it to help local musicians put their music out on thoughtful limited-edition cassettes. Soft Maybe will be their fifth release. They will perform a debut show on December 6th at Western Cider alongside a large backing band of friends. The event will also be Lukas and Zoë Phelan’s art show.
