Releases for daydreaming
Black Pope - White Smoke
This album is dedicated to every girl we wanted to ask out but were too intimidated to talk to. Soaring vocals and twisty guitar are reminiscent of the Arctic Monkeys or the Black Keys. Our love of goth girls and love of not-quite-punk music combine for a perfect storm.
Hayden Calnin - Soon Forever
This sweet little album, filled with Bon Iver-type production and lovelorn lyrics, is dedicated to the crushes we have on classmates we only see on Zoom. Mute yourself, play this album, and daydream about what kind of relationship you would have if you ever met them in person. (But don’t pin their video, because come on, that’s super creepy.)
Rae Fitzgerald - Lonely Listener
Imagine if you’re favorite bands in high school weren’t self-righteous (or secretly predatory) and you’ll get Rae Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald sings with a raspy voice as daydreaming lyrics drift over low-fi production. Imagine the low-fi study playlist on YouTube, but better.
Brandon Jack & The Artifacts - four days
This is the song that we imagine playing when we pick out clothes in that skating video game. We didn’t think that memory existed anymore, but we guess Brandon Jack & The Artifacts brought it back. It’s a little grungy, very energetic, and super nostalgic.
Matvei - Saudade
We still shouldn’t go to clubs, but this might be the next best thing. This urban, electric track is lowkey enough to have in the background, but not so lowkey that we forget it’s playing. It’s house music without the black light and overpriced drinks. A win-win, if you ask us.
Assembled by music director Meghan Jonas.
