The dog days of summer are here
These releases remind us of the lulling state we’re in after sitting out in the sun all day. We can still feel the warmth on our skin, we’re exhausted and rested at the same time, and we know that the whole summer is stretching out before us. Relax, unwind, and let yourself breathe.
Local
Lucas Loyd, Rock ‘Til You Drop
Are you wistful of the groovy sock-hops and music of the 1950s? Listen to Lucas Loyd’s “Rock ‘Til You Drop.” Get the nostalgia with a new twist.
LoveSoph, Sum Little Songs
This Billings artist sings about *all* of her feelings. Bedroom mixing hovers over LoveSoph’s wavering voice. Fluffy guitar fades in and out of focus.
New Albums
Dendrons, Dendrons
Dendrons switch from an energetic, jump up and down, post-punk to a breezy slowed down jam, never leaving space to want more. This album has all the moods of the summer season, whether it’s dog days or fireworks.
Phavors, Petals
This debut EP slows us down, leaving room to think about the things we want. Gentle instrumentals float under longing vocals. This EP feels like a soft breeze blowing through the leaves of an aspen tree as we drift in and out of waking.
Axel Flovent, Tourist EP
If we were in a movie, this would be playing while we were driving away from the girl we met at her parent’s country club. The gentle and honest melodies would remind us of our long-lost love while we were old and gray.
Lady Gaga, Chromatica
Lady Gaga has created the dance album of our dreams with “Chromatica.” We get the electric influences Gaga was bred on with all the songwriting depth of “Joanne.” And this is just in time for Pride. Coincidence? We think not.
New Singles
Me Nd Adam, Lonely Always, CA
You know that summer crush you had freshmen year of college? The one who was a dirtbag, but in a cute way? This reminds us of that. Except unlike our former fling, Me Nd Adam won’t let us down.
Country Westerns, I'm Not Ready
This is the song that plays when you’re the dirtbag (We say this with the utmost respect to dirtbags. We love you and we are you). The guitar and raspy vocals pump us up and don’t let us down.
Cones, Outside
You can trip without actually tripping watching Cones’s new interactive music video. This is the 2020 indie version of “Yellow Submarine” and it might be just as catchy. Consistently good backing and steady vocals let our imagination run wild.
Sir Chloe, Easy On You
This is what would be in the background when we were driving to a cabin with our friends. We’d roll down the windows, play this breezy but sort of intimidating track loud, and feel lucky to be surrounded by the people we love.
Assembled by music director Meghan Jonas.
